September Update and Season 4!

Finally, we have news on the September update that will be dropping Monday, September 30th - there are a few big changes, so let’s quickly go over them:

The Party Button
  • This button will be where the 2v2 button once was - but don’t worry - 2v2 isn’t going anywhere!
  • A new tab of constantly rotating game-modes
  • A completely casual gamemode for Clash Royale
  • Earn Chests, Gold, and Crowns without risking any of your trophies!
  • Matchmaking in this mode will be based on King level and Card levels - you can try out many different decks without worrying about being over-leveled!

Triple Draft!
  • Pick your ENTIRE deck from 3 different card choices - and get a sneak peak of what your opponent’s choose from!
  • Much less luck dependent

Free Emote!
  • Connect your account to Supercell ID to get a free emote! Nice and easy!

Tie Breakers

  • This will be implemented in every gamemode EXCEPT 1v1 Ladder
  • At the end of the 3 minute overtime, the player with the lowest single tower loses.

Clan Leader Rotation

  • If a clan leader is inactive for 35 days, the “leader” position will be passed to the longest serving co-leader
  • Leaders will get a 14-day and 3-day warning
  • If no co-leaders available, position will be passed to longest serving elder

Star Levels

  • New Star levels for Bomber and Cannon

Bonus: There’s also a whole ton of bug-fixes that are too long to mention here, but there are definitely a few that really help out game preformange. Either way, keep in mind that this ISN’T everything that will be coming - there will be a season 4 announcement in just a week, including:

  • New card
  • Spooky season 4 arena
  • Witch rework
  • A few other surprises!

Stay tuned for more information on that!

eSports

Its now week 4 of CRL West, and the season is really beginning to shift into high gear. As expected, SK and Team Liquid are doing amazing this season, and so are Queso, Fnatic, and Pain Gaming, with their reworked rosters. A few big matches this weekend will determine the trajectory of the rest of the season, so be sure to tune into a stream or two!

Community Highlights

This week, we’ve got a concept by u/DarkLegendsNeverDie and it’s a new single-player wave defense mode. In this mode, there are 8 total waves that spawn from your opponent’s side that get increasingly difficult. Between each wave, you get 10 seconds to recoup elixir. Finally - here’s the cool part - at wave 4, you get double elixir, and at wave 7, you get a 15 max elixir cap. You would be able to enter this challenge once every 24 hours, and each wave you defend gives you 500 gold and 20 cards!

Meta Analysis

As coined by CWA, this wtf meta is in its full effect going into this final week of the season. However, it can still be split into a few main archetypes:

  • Control: Control’s defensive mature makes it a viable archetype in almost any meta - this week’s control decks include:
    • Pekka Control/Bridgespam
    • Lava Hound Control
    • Miner Control
    • Graveyard
  • Fireball Bait: With the recent magic archer buff, fireball bait is more effective than ever, especially paired with those royal hogs. These hogs are mostly seen with:
    • Mega Knight
    • Pekka
    • Stand-Alone Fireball Bait
  • Balloon: Balloon is one of those cards that fan take a can take an entire tower in just one single push, and if your opponents make just 1 mistake, that’s exactly what will happen
    • Mostly Cycle Decks
  • Giant Skeleton: Honestly, this guy has his own archetype at this point. We see this guy in
    • Giant Skeleton Clone
    • RG Bait
    • Graveyard
